Question RPM Limiter?

I just bought a '99 C2 and noticed something on my drive tonight.. I was basically testing out the acceleration from a standstill and everytime the rpm hit 5500, I felt a lost of power for a split second, as if there is a RPM limiter. Is this normal at 5500 RPM?? Did the previous owner install a chip that I don't know about?

Any comments would be appreciated.. Thanks!

There is a rev limiter which cuts fuel to 1/2 of the cylinders but it should not come on so soon.

I tried a search but couldn't remember how it was referred to so couldn't find it, but wasn't there a TSB for this? Something to do with a dip in performance at high revs for a minute second. It picks up almost immediately. Like as if it coughs. Jeff, Loren do you recall this?

MAF Sensor failure?
Your problem sounds exactly like the problem my 2001 Carrera 4 had.
Dealer replaced MAF sensor under warranty and the car flies again.

My Boxster had a hesitation at 4k rpms and then it would rev up to full rpm where the rev limiter would come on. It was the air flow sensor.
