Calif. drivers, any CHP 11-99 members?
I recently learned about the 11-99 foundation, and I'm thinking about joining. It sounds like the best ticket avoidance method I've heard of yet.
If anyone here is a member, I'd love to hear about whether or not you think its worth the money. Also, I'd be interested in any avoided ticket stories you might have.
One more question, what is the KMA-LA organization? I know its a similar police charity, that also gives you a license plate frame. I did a Google search, and got no results.

i've got it but don't know about it's effectiveness for that purpose. i'd think local cops could give a crap that you've given money to the chp, but who knows. i got pulled over for 20 over by a non-chp, and reminded him it was my birthday. so, i don't know which, if either even, played a role in him just giving me a warning.
it's a good cause and is tax deductible though:

To get the license plate frame you have to join up for a lifetime membership instead of the annual one - $1800 vs. $500. I joined up some time ago when it was only $1300 so the after tax cost was maybe $700-800...if that saves me one ticket in the next 10 years then it easily pays for itself when you consider fines, traffic school and insurance premiums. The one good thing is that it's good for all of your vehicles...so I have plates for 3 cars and 2 bikes.
As far as saving you from a ticket...no guarantees but I've had cops come up to me when I'm on my Ducati and signal me to slow down when they could have written me up. I'm sure it won't save you from an egregrious traffic offense but if the officer has a choice of pulling over two equally guilty vehicles, which one do you think he'd pick?

Well it's no guarantee it will get you off on a ticket because my friend who previously had a 996 cab(now TTcab-dork!!!) still got a ticket after showing off his chp 11-99 foundation card and license plate. To no avail-still got the ticket. Regards. Mike

I am told that in Moscow you can now buy a permit which basically exempts you from traffic laws.
If they sold these in California, the deficit problem would be solved in days.

I think what you are refering to in Russua is the lane on the road you pay to use. Basically it's like a bus/carpool lane for rich people. You can pay to have your own lane and the cops usually leave people who have the permit to drive in those lanes alone cause they are either goverment or mafia.

It'd be potentially cheaper to get a chrome plate and have your own letters engraved on it. Unless you're really into giving to charity instead of trying to get out of tickets.
I'm betting that the police laugh at the plate because I've yet to see a Caprice Classic or a Ford Crown Vic civilian car with that plate. All I see are M5s and fast cars.
The CHP are laughing their way to the bank on this one.
