Has anyone replaced the Seat Back Recliner Adjustment Mechanism Cover - Porsche (996-521-316-01-D05? How challenging is it to get the upholstery off, or how is it accessed? Thanks,

I just replaced one. It is pretty simple. You basically need to remove the two white fixing plugs underneath the front of the lower seat cushion. You can then pull the seat cushion forward or up and expose the one snap pin that holds the trim piece in place. Not that hard.

I need to do the same, so this is good to know. Does the seat need to be removed?
So far, it looks like the seats need to come out, which is fine. I am going to re-finish them. Once it stops snowing I will pull the seats and post some photos. I intend to fix it with fiberglass, epoxy and respray it. Rustoleum Coastal Grey seems pretty close, the grey plastidip seems to be a much closer match.

Makes sense and good luck.
The heating stopped working on the same seat this cover is broken on. Trying to debate if I want to fix it myself or have a shop do it. The leather has to be pulled off anyway so it's a no brainer to replace this piece at the same time.

Just to add to this. The switch panel needs to come off, just two screws and then the panel need to be pushed up to disengage its tabs. The upholstery on that side is held on by a channel over the frame so you need to pull down on it and then lift it out & up to gain access to the button holding the side plate. When you're taking the panel off you can drive the button pin out from underneath the seat but you'll need to lift the upholstery outta the way to drive it back in.
I recently acquired a damaged set of sport seats and I'm redoing them to match my boxster red interior. I took a piece of my leather to a regular paint store and they matched the color in a spray can for $20. It was a perfect match! When prepping the panels I found that a green Scotch scouring pad worked the best for removing the old soft paint while retaining the texture molded into the panels. Hope this helps.

Don't know if your backrest or bottom isn't working. I added heating to the seats I rebuilt. I sourced a set of backrest with heating from ebay for $60. But I bought a new element for the bottom for about $110. (#16) It has peel off sticking contact stuff on it so it was easy to put in place. Also, bought a set of hog rings & pliers on Amazon to do the covers. I'd gladly "pay them forward" if you wanna give it a try. GL
Very helpful, thank you. How did you get the seat adjusting switch plate cover off? I have the two screws removed, but it is still stuck on pretty good and I am nervous about breaking something. What does the back of the plate look like?
Thanks again

Thanks for the advice, I will find a paint match tomorrow, there is a Sherwin Williams, maybe they can do aerosol.
Another question, it appears I have heated seats. Looks like the elements and wiring are in the seat. Does anyone know if I can just add the switches to the console and there will be wiring to plug into? Or, is it a bigger conversation? I am going to take the console apart to refinish it also, so I might be able to answer my own question. In some Land Rovers, they have the heat built in and all you have to do is add the switch, the full wiring is in place.
Those are not heated seats. If you had heated seats there would be a big relay on the opposite side of the seat from the main plug, and the main plug would have 4 big contacts in it (not the two you have).
You can add heated seats, you would need the heaters or the foam cushions with heaters preinstalled, the small wiring harness that goes on the seat frame, the heated seat relay, the heated seat switch, and you'll need to make a wiring harness that links the fuse box, seat, and switch together.

Don't know if you got the switch plates off yet. There are two prongs at the top of the plate backside that snap onto the frame. They have tabs that face downward so you slightly push up and pull out. They're pretty big tabs so they can handle a pretty strong pull without worry of breaking them. GL

^^^^^ This. Plus there'd be two more plugs attached to the plastic crossmember piece. One for the backrest heater and one for the bottom. I was able to source the wiring harness with these plugs and relay on ebay. GL
