Default Is this 2003 C4S priced too high?

Somehow I lost my mind in 2019 and got rid of my 997.2. I have now recovered and I am thinking about a 996.2 C4S. It seems like the nicest ones I've seen recently are $40k and up. One of them has been posted for sale for several weeks (asking $49k).

I have not contacted the dealer yet but I noticed on the Carfax that they had it serviced where I probably was going to get an invasive PPI done. Is it inappropriate to reach out to the shop for details before contacting the dealer? Should I pick another shop for the invasive PPI? The ad says IMS has been addressed but I need to get the details on that as well?

And finally, is this where the price of these cars is going? I saw one on BaT was sold in mid December for $40k by an Audi dealership in Fresno - no price yet but sales rep said they expect to be asking mid $50k for that one!

Thanks in advance. Here is the link:

My local Porsche dealership had a Blue ‘03 or ‘04 C2 coupe, manual transmission with 3X,xxx miles for sale.
Thought it was crazy that they were asking 39K for it.

Then I noticed that it was sold.
I doubt they got 39K for it.
But did they drop the price by 14K?

He said mid $50k asking price. $15-$20k high puts it at mid to high $30s.

Exactly
My example of a C2 was just emphasizing how inflated some asking prices are.

I’m just wondering how much room is left for negotiation.
Will a dealer drop their asking price by 30% or more?
Not in my experience.

And YES the 03 C4S IS priced too high.

It’s clear prices for nice 996’s are rising and the C4S typically is at the top of the non-metzger heap. I know we all like a bargain but the saying pay now or pay later certainly applies to a 17 year old car.

The one that is supposed to be priced in the mid $50's still hasn't been priced yet. I find it hard to believe they will price it that high - he might have misspoken and it will actually be in the mid $40's. Here's the listing:

The others that I've seen all have under 50k miles and they are all priced $43k and up. Might just be a temporary spike - I've only been looking for a few weeks....

Timing is everything and there is a really nice one listed on BAT at the moment that has all the preventive work and 45K on the clock. It will be interesting to watch to see how the auction ends:

Wow, new auction up today. Yeah I'm curious to see how that one goes. BaT is awesome for sellers but tough for buyers if you want to try to get a thorough PPI done before purchase.

I have to admit in the second week of December i bought an immaculate C4S with 48.000 including documentation of the IMS RMS AOS and cam seals along with a new clutch for $43k and I couldn’t be happier. I understand the KBB value is irrelevant with these cars and realized that the C4S model in a coupe is getting more difficult to find with this type of history and condition.

Maybe people have extra money to spend on these because they sold their Tesla stock...

It seems overpriced. But maybe we're in a bubble where instead of spending money on vacations, because they can't, people are looking for a different type of escape. So the prices go up.

at $40-50k, I'd look for a 996tt. I know those have seen some increase as well, but the differential is not that much at that point.

It's difficult to foresee the evolution of prices. Two years ago, you could by 4S with 50K miles for 30K, and now, those same cars are in the range between 35$-40$. The question for those on the hunt now is: to wait because this is a temporary bubble, or buy those units before they are not available at those prices anymore...

Not saying there's anything wrong with Tips, but I'm just saying; all sub-$50k 6TT's at this point are Tips.
