My young kids were playing in my 03 C4 while I was talking to a friend outside. Now my driver's side window won't go down. Im not sure that the kids caused it but i know they messed with any button or lever they could find (the car was off and i had the key). The passenger side window operates normally. But the drivers side won't go down at all anymore. It won't go auto down when opening or closing door from inside or outside. It also won't go down when pushing the switch. Pushing switch does make a faint clicking sound inside the door panel. Also potentially relevant is that most of the time when previously closing this window it would go up halfway then override and go down even when holding button in up position. Pushing switch again would achieve normal up operation. Searches didn't find this exact scenario so any help into troubleshooting would be appreciated. Thanks!
The "halfway then override and go down even when holding button in up position" sounds like the motor's load sensor. If it takes too much force to go up or down, the motor will stop so it doesn't squish or snap something.
Might be something with your regulator or tracks that is making it difficult. Or you may need a new motor. Not sure if the motor assembly degrades with age, gets gunked up, or something changes with the sensor, but for mine the cure was replacement (the motor).
Also of note -- the motors are different between cabriolets and coupes.
After not working for a few days the window starting operating normally without me doing anything. I was just about to tear the door panel off to investigate.
I'd be suspicious of the motor then. If it's close to the force threshold it will be an intermittent thing.
Pretty easy swap since you don't have to muck around with the regulator. Good luck!
