If the car is not used much and for not long periods and not always brought up to full operasting temperature for some period of time - water will condense in the oil and not have enough time to boil off in normal operation. Also a common occurance on light aircraft engines they are cold soaked with moisture in the air and then warmed. The water vapor in the cold air condenses into water drops and then -- if you keep the engine at operating temp for a sufficient amount of time the water will all boil off and vent out of the crankcase. If not, you've got water drops in the oil.

If it's sitting for any length of time (especially in cold, moist air) then when you start it, make sure you run it for a good length of time at full operating temperature.

I get that as well.. The yellow gunk smells like gas.. I just wiped it off. I was told to drive the car harder..

I see this regularly during the cold winter months up here in the NW but not in spring, summer or fall. My shop said don't worry about it. It burns off.
