I believe that it's a DOT regulation. Sidemarkers must be amber colored. Clear lenses with amber bulbs may pass the "casual" test.

so when someone talks about putting on a ROW #### suspension, what does that mean? That other than the US, the stock ROW suspension is lower than ours?

For the most part, yes.

US regs require all cars to have a "yellow" reflectorized side marker at the front side and a red reflector at the rear side so that your car , while parked at night , is visible to a car approaching from the side. The ROW marker does not reflect.

In our **** litigous(sp?) country I can see an insurance company denying a claim because the side markers on someone's modded Pcar not reflecting.

Mine are still ugly yellow... and planning on changing them.

If changed, are we breaking the law in some manner that I am unaware of?

the clear side lights that I got from Suncoast Porsche come with an orange bulb, so when the lights are turned on, the light appears orange, hopefully this meets the federal requirements

It doesn't because the lens needs to be an amber reflector in case the light bulb is not on. In other words, the front side marker lights needs to look amber whether the bulb is on or off.

Technically, yes. The same way you'd be breaking the law by removing catalytic converters or other mandated equipment.

When I was in Boston I had to change the white reflectors back to OEM amber ones to get my car to pass the yearly state emssions check cause so many people where doing it in Mass. Or maybe my service station was being strict. I actually failed with them white.

Quick Reply: Why do ROW cars have clear side-markers and U.S. ones have amber?...
