Hello ,
I am a '01 996 owner and I was wondering if this would be a good idea, or if this has been done already. So we all know that getting to the front side of the 996 engine
and servicing anything such as the AOS or just replacing any vacuum lines that can be a real bitch to do , just a pain in the *** to me. On the Boxster, the engine is servicable
via a access panel. It makes for a very nice user friendly feature. My question is, can a small access panel be cut in the engine compartment area located under the rear
driver side seat area? Can this be done w. out hurting structure integrity? if a hinge or air tight clasp is fitted to make closure solid? It seems like something that has been already done
and if not, needs to be done. Please any help or info would help out a great deal. I do want to have this type of feature. My car is my daily so checking vac lines and being able to just open a
service panel and theres my AOS looking at me would just make my week.
Thanks

Just replace your AOS with a UAOS and the part that normally fails will be in back.
It will only take 5-10 minutes to replace.
Cutting an access hole seems like a lot of work just to check vacuum lines.
I can get to all the vacuum hoses in the front of the engine in 15 minutes.
It helps that I’ve removed both Plenums a couple of time.
