Default Replacing cats on 4S. rear O2's to short for new cats

So I just replaced the cats on my 04 4S. I was able to locate a set of OEM cats for my car but I was a bit surprised when I went to put them on. The rear O2 location for the cats on my car was in the middle of the cat. The new ones the rear O2 was further down after the cat. When I went on to Sonnon Porsche site to check part numbers it showed the further down location as the correct one. Did Porsche redesign the cats because they were failing early due to the O2 location? I ended up splicing the O2 wires to extend them to reach but was just wondering. The cats the came off the car were original the car has 114k miles.
