Default keyless entry

Hello.....

I'm normally on the 993 forum but a friend is having issues with his keyless entry on his 99 996 Targa. The system works intermittently. Has this group run across this and if so, what is the fix? I'm suspecting he needs to replace the fob but would like to know the wisdom of the group suggests..

I would appreciate it if you PM me as I don't usually monitor the 996 forum

Thanks

It's generally caused by cracked solder points on the circuit board in the key fob. Some people have successfully re-soldered them. On the other hand, I botched mine completely and now just lock and unlock it manually. There is an aftermarket kit for less than $100 that you can install if you really need that function. Replacing the fob will require having Porsche code it and will cost in excess of $400.

I will PM the OP.
