Default 2003 Radio Recall

I had my 03 C2 in for some minor trim problems and when I went to pick it up they switched out the radio (Hi Fi Digital) head unit(cdr23) due to a recall. Invoice states "replace radio as per service action W030 for "Best FM" functionality" Service advisor wasn't too clear about what the problem was but I'm assuming it has to do with the best FM search function. He did say they were NOT notifing customers, just taking care of it on your next visit.

Just FYI in case you're having any radio problems.

Hmm... There is a TSB for this for TT and GT2 only. So I wonder if this has been expanded or if your dealer gave you a new radio...

TSB 6/03 W303 W303 - CDR 23 "Best FM" Functionality (dated 5-23-03) (TT/GT-2) states:
This is to inform you of a voluntary Workshop Service Action on certain 2003 model year 911 Turbo (996) and 911 GT2 (996) vehicles, equipped with either the standard radio option or Digital Sound system Radio options M490 or M680. Due to an internal software error, the list of preset stations in the
"Best FM" function is lost after a period of approx. 15 to 30 minutes. The result is that the customer can only listen the station currently selected, and cannot select another station using the presets. The procedure is repeated following an "ignition off".

Therefore, we ask that the affected vehicles listed below have their radios replaced during the Porsche Owner's next visit to your workshop.

A total of 119 U.S. and 12 Canadian vehicles fall within the scope of this Service Action.

Very Important! Not every vehicle in the below listed range may be affected. Use the ranges below as a general guideline. Only radios with part numbers 996 645 12801 and 996 645 12901 need to be replaced.
Refer to Attachment "A"to determine if a particular vehicle is eligible for this service action. Alternatively, the VIN can be checked in the Porsche e-DCS/WWS for confirmation of an open service action.

The affected Vehicle Identification Numbers are contained in the following VIN-Ranges:
Model Year 2003, US and Canadian Vehicles
WPOAB29983S685062 to WPOAB29993S685202 Turbo (U.S.)
WPOAB299X3S685063 to WPOAB29903S685198 Turbo (Canadian)
WPOAB29963S696061 GT2 (U.S.)

They must have expanded the TSB because a C4S owner in front of me was also wondering why the changed radiops.

I was just at the dealer yesterday, unfortunately for some touch-up paint, and they (young mechanic) asked if I was having any problems with the radio. I said no, and his return reply was, "you'll be back". The only issue I've had with mine was the CD churned indefinitely until I toggled between FM and CD a couple times.
