IMS BEARING AND CRANK SEAL REPLACEMENT

IMS bearing replacement went very well; surprisingly straight forward process. The existing bearing appeared fine, but I replaced anyway. I used the Pelican bearing. I don't drive my 911 for five to six months during Michigan's winter weather. So I plan to replace the IMS bearing every two years regardless of mileage. I enjoy the work and have plenty of winter down time for engine/trans drop. Appreciate everyone's guidance.

I think he said he enjoys the work. And if he changes out the $200 bearing every two years, it will take eighteen years for the Solution to pay off in "raw" numbers (I can show you my math).
We all make choices based on many factors. What's right for you (or me), may not match with the next guy. I think Lane has a handle on this.

Completion update on my 2002 996 Carrera: replaced IMS bearing, RMS, starter, clutch/slave cylinder, plugs, thermostat, several hoses, AOS, and a few other preventive maintenance parts. All went very well. I now have 100 or so miles since engine/trans reinstall. This all started due to an AOS failure. Again, appreciate all the feedback.
