I have a 996 Cab mod. 2000 with Navigation system PCM1

But I donīt have any Bord computer lever ??

My display just shows the speed and the outside temp.

Is that normal or what ??

Found out this an extra option, and can not be installed later. This also goes for the cruise pilot.

I'd love to know more about retrofitting cruise control if you have any info.

I own a 99 (Europe, equals 2000 in US I think) 996 C2 Cab.

Can it be done?

Yep, how is that done. OBC computer would be nice, even I got all the data on the NAV display.

I made a search here on this forum, ended up reading 3 pages of mud throwing about a DVD containing different stuff. Anyway :-))

What is on that DVD ?

Where can I get one ?

What does it cost ?

Unfortunately I live in Denmark.......so that will be like 18 hours away from CA..............by plane.

I canīt figure out, have you done the retrofit of the OBC ??

But looks like the OBC retrofit is only done on the 986 not the 996.

Will there be any difference ?

How much is the total price for the retrofit ?

The DVD shows how to do it on Boxsters. It is done the same way on a 996. The only difference between a 996 and a Boxster is the oval trim piece that a Boxster does not have. This is explained in the second link I provided. The wiring harnes you need to make and the switch assembly are otherwise identical for your year.

If you shop around in the US you can buy the parts for about $170. Also, some dealers will charge to turn on the trip computer. Since you can see the outside temp display it is already turned on in your car.

This retrofit is apparently not well know outside of the US. This is a link to the UK Boxster board. http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?showtopic=3209 About a year ago someone on that board did the retrofit. You also need to understand that you will not see the fancy dot matrix menues as they did not exist in 2000.

I was aware about the dot matrix thing. It could be cool if you succed on doing the OBC and Cruise control at the same time. Then I donīt have to first buy a 3 stalker unit and then later a 4.

Now I just need to get the DVD.

Does the DVD contain a list of part numbers you need and all that s. :-) ??

The current part numbers for your year are identified on the second link. I do not remember mentioning the part numbers on the DVD. Porsche changes part numbers all the time so it would make not sense to do so.

I still find it strange that the 3 spoke switch assembly costs more than the 4 spoke - let me know if it is the same in your country.

The other strange thing is the ignition switch that goes bad on the older cars. It is also used on a VW/Audi but cost less when you buy it from Porsche.

I also have PCM1 but no computer. The only way to check the outside temperature is to have a look on the PCM screen. Is there any way I could activate the temperature display on the speed meter?.
