I'm soon to be getting a 99' Carrera 4 Cabrio with an original PCM 1; I've been looking at replacements for the PCM 1 such as a radio/GPS/CD system, but from what I've found, nothing aftermarket will work with the CD changer in the trunk. Is anyone aware of any out there? I don't care about Sirius, but I'd like a decent sound system with a sensitive Am/Fm radio (esp a good AM section)...but I hate to dump the CD changer in the trunk...
I haven't had an optical drive in the car for 4 years; 95% of what I listen to streams over Bluetooth to my head unit; occasionally I listen to AM to try to catch the local weather.
Other benefits to streaming: 5-0 Radio (or your favorite scanner app) + your local law enforcement comms feed is a fantastic way to supplement your radar detector.
If you can't live without the CDs in the frunk, that's cool...I personally can't imagine going back to door pockets full of mis-matched CDs and cases...
Hmmm, I'm not sure who made the PCM 1 system. Was it Becker ? If so, I'd contact them for information. FWIW, I've got the CD changer and still use it - problem is, it's difficult to get the cartridges...
Almost all the cd changes are Kendwood or Sony under the covers,,
Kenwood building the lions share,, On most of them there is a button
combo that will display the info about them on the head units display.
My 06 BMW was a kenwood. so was the one in my 1995 BMW. once you took the
plastic cover off they were identical.
