Default Superchargers

Just got the new Performance Products catalog in the mail. On page 5 they have a supercharger kit for 996's that uses an Eaton M90 positive displacement supercharger. They claim that you can get 120 more hp over stock, measured at the rear wheels. The price (parts only) is $9,800.

Anybody have any thoughts on this, and how it compares to the similar product available from EVO?

=CarlosR=

P.S. For some reason, I can't find this on their web site, or I'd provide a link to it. Maybe it's too new?

performance products only has about 1% of their products on their website, so that's probably why you can't find it!

i'm sure it's a good product since it's from eaton. the HP claims pretty much matchup with what i've heard from EVO, though maybe it's a little bit high.

I'm not positive, but I think so, because it requires the installation of a center radiator, if you don't have one already.

That is the (in) famous TPC supercharger ! (got my catalouge today). It was supposed to have been out more than a year ago, but they ran into some issues. I guess they have finally approved it for production. Looks very similar to the Evo Motorsports version.

Having experience with both superchargers and turbochargers, I am kind of prejudice against superchargers. I say if want more power there is no better way than turbo!

What was your experience? Tell us more.

I would think that the supercharger would have at least one big advantage -- no lag.

the supercharger is also less destructive towards the engine that a turbo as well, not to mention it is a simple bolt on where as the turbo requires alot of engine dismantling

Well I can't say that superchargers are bad, I like to call it "restrictive" power wise. If you are like me you will always want more power. I don't know what kind of gains you can expect on a porsche, if its 120whp than thats a good deal. I have experience on 4 cyl engines. My cousin works at a speed shop (BASZ racing) and we see the #'s these chargers produce. The typical eaton charger with a 8lb pulley makes on average of 75whp(on a 4 cyl engine). Using a t3/4 DRAG turbo set up running 15lbs of boost we saw power gains of 210whp on the dyno. The Drag turbo kit cost $400 less than the supercharger. So I am not saying superchargers are bad, it all depends are what you want, with the turbo and a boost controller you control your power, plus I personally love the sound of that blow off valve

Not all superchargers have a BOV, the Vortech charger does but others like JR don't. But you have a valid point

Sorry for going off topic guys, but here is why I love turbo cars. This is my cousins Boss' 97 honda civic hatch which yielded 602whp and 456lb/tq using a t66 turbo on 31lbs of boost . DFI gen 6 is used for engine management. The car runs 10's @high 130's on STREET slicks
