Anybody have any thoughts on this, and how it compares to the similar product available from EVO?

P.S. For some reason, I can't find this on their web site, or I'd provide a link to it. Maybe it's too new?
I think it is pretty cool that you can get SC kits for the 996. I wonder what the deal is with warranty? I cannot imagine anyone installing one before the "four-and-fifty" is up, but huffing these engines is prolly less risky than most as the have forged pistons and the hp increase is not as significant as it is in many other applications. For example the 928 crowd is getting upwards of 500 rwhp out of the huffed S4 and GT engines.....that is in some cases a doubling over the stock hp.

I'm supposed to be picking up my '99 C4 Cab tomorrow with my brand new, kit #10 supercharger from EVO. The guys at Intersport (Charlie is an old buddy) installed it, with some guidance from Todd at EVO. Benlj and CarreraScott have the same kits and both seem to love them. I'll post with some thoughts after I've had a few days with it. BTW, I went with supercharger because of the ease of installation (bolt on basically) and I am told I'll end of with around 430bhp, which is all I'm going to want to get out of this car anyway.

Mitch,

That's way cool! I will definitely be interested in your feedback on this, as it's something I've been considering for my '99 C2 cab for a while. I've already read the reviews that Ben posted, although I might have missed Scott's. In any case, it will be great to have someone local who has had this done.

Care to share what the total package costs, roughly?

My friend Justin was #9.... I've been driving it around the last couple of days.. First impressions were its definitely more power......
1st gear kicks in around 5500 range.. so in no time your at 7K... shift to 2nd... a little more power in the 4-7K range.. then 3rd... oh yes 3rd!!! That is my favorite... 3rd is now like 2nd..... plenty of power all the way through 3rd... 4th... well haven't really hit that one.. in 3rd your already at 100....
Its very nice!!!

I sure hope his car is set up right because I have the system and the power is far more linear and earlier arriving.

dynoes of 4th can be found here http://www.986host.com/gallery/benkea?&page=11 and 3rd here http://www.986host.com/gallery/benkea?&page=12

Ben,

I looked at your plots -- very nice, thanks for posting them. But it does look from the charts that significant power increases don't really arrive until 4K or so. Is that right?

"Really" significant yes. But, as you can see you always have more hp and these numbers are "RWHP" not flywheel which means they are about 18% higher. So, while the numbers may look small from 2k on, the 10 hp RWHP is meaningful and then in the 3k rpms you get +20s RWHP.

Todd/Evo did have a turbo conversion for the 3.4 L/3.6 L but it really never came out. I was reading the article on the supercharged 911 that he has, and while they made a turbo kit he claimed it would have been unviable commercially as a kit because of all the piping it would have been astronomically expensive (I think it was like $35K+) because the engine had to be beefed up, and the piping was custom. The SC was a much easier kit for the 911. Given the 11:1 compression ratio, this is not an easy task to FI this car.

Ben, thanks for the explanation.

Does anyone have any thoughts on choosing between the EVO and the TPC systems?

I think that EVO has a better reputation, from what I've heard.

What about preferences between a centrifugal s/c (EVO) and a positive displacement type (TPC)?

=CarlosR=

P.S. Can you tell by my questions that I've never owned a supercharged car?

Anyone know if the supercharger in the topic of this thread will work on a 1999 996 cab? It uses a 2000 as an example but I don't know if that excludes the 1999 or the 2000 is just an example? Also, does anyone know what the extra HP would do to the 5.0 0-60?

Thanks
