Default 30k miles - preventative maintenance?

Is there a good resource for the maintenance schedule on a 996?

Have a 1999 C2 with 30k miles and trying to figure out what parts I should be thinking about replacing either due to age or wear.

In particular interested in all the rubber bits that have aged out on a lightly driven 20 year old 911.

Car has had IMSB replaced and regular air/oil filter changes.

I'll bite.

First start is consult the owner's manual.

If you have a 99 with 30k on it good for you. But, on RL without pictures it doesnt exist.

I wouldnt replace anything that aint broke. Its a waste of money on a 1999 996.

Save your money!

When a check engine light comes on fix it. Until then drive it like you stole it.

No 996 experience but with my 2002 Boxster (which I drove to 317K miles) I didn't have to do anything of any note to the car until around 75K the AOS (the 1st of what would prove to be 3) failed. Then at around 80K miles a wheel bearing got noisy.

172K miles: Water pump/T-stat. I changed the coolant every 4 years or so. Helps prolong water pump life and hose life and other cooling system components.

Fuel pump at around 200K miles. Coolant tank at maybe 220K miles. Tech said this job "fiddly". I offered to let him cut the hoses and fit new ones in fact to replace all hoses. He said Porsche hoses really hold up and absent any signs of degradation to leave them be. Hoses were all original and in good condition when I sold the car with 317K miles on it.

VarioCam solenoid/actuator 250K miles. CV boots cracked and tech cleaned the CV bearings, inspected them found then good repacked with grease and fitted new boots and installed the originals back in the car. Still going strong when I sold the car at 317K miles.

At one point talked to the Porsche techs about a suspension refresh. Was told with no shock leaks no signs of porpoising or wheel hop shocks/suspension fine.

Really just replaced things as they needed replacing. AOS (3 times). Couple of sets of O2 sensors. Plugs when due. Coils were original, but if I had kept the car I would have replaced these next plug change.

Filters (engine/cabin) when due. Had to replace a MAF. Oil filler tube cap worn out/leaked at low engne RPMs. Replaced this at around 150K miles. Believe it or not the replacement wore out after 150K miles and I had to replace the replacement. Gas cap tether broke and I replaced the gas cap. It was about ready to start leaking.

As I mentioned above, coils were original and never had one misfire. Oh had to replace a converter: The original one damaged by road debris -- brick knocked loose -- and every once in a great while would trip the CEL and log a P0430 error code. Finally bought 2 used exhaust manifolds/converters and that was that.

Clutch was original. (RMS replaced at 25K miles under warranty.) Radiators original. Had to replace on ballast resistor.

Top finally leaked at around 14 years. Car spent most of its time parked outside. I never put the top down. Clear coat started showing its age towards the end.

I purchased my 2000 996 with 20k miles on it and the following is a list of items that have needed replacement
at 27K miles - clutch
(RMS IMSB AOS proactive replacements when replacing clutch)
40K - miles plugs and coils
60 K miles Right rear wheel bearing
35 k miles minor soft top repair
40 K miles replaced rear plastic window in the soft top

How much $$$ for a 2002 Boxster with 317k miles - just curios

If you like spending money, you could go by the Porsche maintenance schedule for the 996, I think it has intervals at every 10k miles and go from there... When I got my 03 C4S in Nov. 2017, it had not been maintained by a Porsche shop, so I just had the standard stuff like all fluids, filters, etc. swapped and replaced, and had a good once-over. No real issues. Since then have had bigger stuff to replace like water pump/thermostat, bushings, axle boots, engine mounts, ignition lock, etc. YMMV of course!

I went right to the 120,000 mile service recommendations when I brought my car home.

Your mileage will vary.

Yes, you must buy an early boxster and sacrifice it to the Porsche gods

I just had a estimate from Porsche for 30k mile service on my 996 Turbo. And basically they just do plugs and oil change and wanted 2200 dollars the rest is check boots , . And basically look car over. I would do plugs , coil packs and oil change but not from Porsche. Also change brake fluid every 2 years. Unless you want your car documented. But I don’t think it’s worth it. I have list and will post it for yea when I get home if you like.
