Default Cabrio Roll Bar Cover Replacement

Hopefully someone can help with this problem. Replaced my roll bar cover tonight - the old one was literally crumbling and one of the little oval covers had blown off while driving down the road. Got a new (used) one from DC Auto - it looks beautiful and like new. Here is the problem - my old one mounted with three screws - one under the material in the top well, right in the middle of the car, and two in the front - behind the carpet in the back seat area - right next to the seat belts. But - my new one does not have the plastic molding where the two front screws go - just the one in the rear. I cannot see anywhere else that it is set up to attach. Exact same part number, but clearly a revised part. Has anyone else run into this issue?
Thanks in advance!

Default Roll Bar Attachments

Mine is a 997 but I can't imagine it is much different. I had mine off this weekend. The rear mounting screw is in the middle of the back side, and there was one on each side under the pop-up roll bar covers themselves on the outside that screwed into an "L" bracket. Do you still have the old one for comparison?

This is exactly what I needed to know. Did not look under the pop-up covers for mounting spot - will open them up and see if mounting holes line up. Yes, still have the old one so can compare. I was doing that when I wrote the post - did not look in the area where you have marked.
Thank you very much!

Check out these instructions and see if this helps clear things up:

Great stuff - thank you very much for posting. Will pop the covers off and see what I have there. Based on what I’m learning there must have been a running change at some point, while using the same part number. My cabrio is a very early production 996 so it does not surprise me that some things changed along the way.

Yep, I agree with you that there could have been an update during the production run. If you don't have the L brackets you could probably source them from Pelican or another supplier, or even fab them yourself. Mine are held in place by the upper front side bold on the aluminum column It will be apparent when you look at where the screw holes for the cover line up.

Good luck!

Thanks - just popped off one of the small covers, and here is what I found. Put the screw in the mounting hole but there is nothing but air below. Will call Pelican or ESC in the morning and see if they have the L brackets. Crap - this was not what I was planning to deal with for what should have been a simple replacement.

Update - talked to Rex at dC Auto - they are sending me the L brackets from a newer 996 cabrio. So - hopefully problem solved. Hopefully I don’t have to drill in a tight spot to install. Clearly there was a running change but why makes no sense to me. The way the old ones are secured seems far better and simpler than the newer cars.
