Coating for "polished" headlight

I've gone with a spray clear coat after polishing my lights in the past, and they still wound up yellowing pretty quickly after that. I may not have used the right spray in the first place, but it was disappointing.
I wound up getting the Xpel brand pre-cut headlight films and putting those on after re-polishing. That has held up really well and the lights still look clear and sharp even after a year of driving, sitting in the sun, etc. I think I purchased mine from Amazon.

I took mine to a body shop and they sprayed them with their clearcoat ( I had to rough the polish with 2500 grit paper) for a case of beer. They just did them along with a car they were finishing. OK, I know the body guys
Oh, and then I put Xpel on the lenses
You could also get a can of 2K clear -- its a 2 part (puncture to activate thing) and spray the lights.

guys in this thread talked about clear coating their headlights. I still can't understand the logic. the lenses are permanently altered and if done incorrectly the lights are forever ruined.
apply lamin-x or xpel and be done with it.
