Default Bose Speaker Replacement Options

Has anyone yanked their factory Bose speakers and replaced then with something else recently? If so, what make and model speakers did you use and was it plug-n-play or did you have to modify things? I've read on some old posts that people used JBL speakers, but the models are no longer available so I don't know what a current option would be. I want to keep the factory head unit since like the look and there's nothing wrong with it, but I've tried adding non-Bose speakers to Bose systems on other cars and they didn't play nice. I have an 03 C4S with the CDR23 head unit.
Thanks

Try going to Crutchfield - they have a really helpful configurator where you plug in your make/model/year and the populated results are only those that fit your specific model - link below.

I must be getting old cause I think my Premium Bose system sounds great, though I rarely listen to anything but the sweet sound of the flat six.
