I have one in my Audi S6 and agree and am a big fan...just curious as to whether the control interface on the CDR is effective for navigating the Phatbox.
Thanks!

Sorry - mine is a 220. The Kenwood does not have the same software in it, nor does it have the same digital-to-analog converters. The Phatbox sounds MUCH better than the Kenwood, although if you don't have a fully upgraded system you might not hear the difference that much.
I've heard that you can upgrade the Kenwood's software to work with the 220, but I'm not 100% sure of this.
I was contemplating your dilemma when I chose the Phtabox - I went to great lengths to keep it all stock looking, when a new head-unit would have probably been a bit less expensive and maybe even sounded a hair better. But I'm really happy with the stealth look of my rig, and it sounds pretty amazing to me. Phatbox is a great addition - definitely blows people away when it 'speaks' out loud what album or artist you're listening to...

Thanks for the additional info...I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger, just trying to see if it is available anywhere else cheaper than through Phatnoise for $850 - much more than the Kenwood version or the Audi version I bought for $500.

nothing against the phat box, but you can buy an iPOD ($300 - $450 storage size dependent), spend $20 and 20 mins installing an aux input to your head unit and have all your music in your fingertips - AND take it with you when you leave the car. To me, better utility and cheaper too!

yeah but the phatbox and keg are cool becuase you can use the radio to control it, and you don't have to try and fiddle with the buttons on the ipod etc. Plus the display shows all the stuff just like a cd player I am sort of in the same boat right now. I am at an impass with my head unit. I have a changer so it's about well, I can upgrade the deck but then I would have to either get a changer or a hd type deal, etc. I also have a sub and 5 channel amp though., so I really wonder how much cleaner the signal will be from an aftermarket deck. Anyone know what the specs on the line out is on a cd220? NOW that would be interesting!

If I'm not mistaken, since the car originally had the CDR210, the interface to the CD player, that the Phatbox uses, isn't there and needs to be added. Anyone run into this problem and know where to get the harness??
On a seperate note, I don't recommend the IPod since it does not support FLAC {or any other open, lossless compression}. And don't even get me started on the fact that at iTunes you pay for music and then can't play that music on anything but their hardware and software without working pretty hard to circumvent.
