Default 996.1 C4 M490 amplifier location and mounting

Hi all, new member here, owning a 996.1 C4 and a 986S. I tinker on my cars, have had lots of interesting projects. Currently reverting to stock M490 audio (speakers in the dash, doors and rear, driven by a 6 channel amp) as the inPhase amp and door speakers that had been fitted by a previous owner just sound terrible and I prefer the M490 sound in the Boxster. I'm an audiofile listening to old school music with natural instruments and prefer clean and laid back sound to forced and distorted bass and harsh treble. I also hate the one navigator button menu of the Pioneer head unit and prefer the good old hard buttons for the main functions. I have the original radio/CD and ordered a 6x40W amp but not sure where and how to mount it. It comes with the bracket but it doesn't look like the bracket would fit in the place where I guess the original unit lived, circled in red in the picture. 996.1 C4 owners (with the plastic trim as opposed to the carpet in 996.2 C4s) please post a picture with the trim removed to see how the amp is fitted. Thanks in advance.

RHD drive car? UK?

If I'm not mistaken, that red area you highlighted is for the CD changer bracket. The M490 amps on the C4 mount on the side I believe. Check it out and report back.

Yes, RHD in the UK.

I think you mean the 996.2 C4s. It seems to be the other way around for 996.1s. See the two pictures. The one with the carpet trim and the CD changer fully visible above the carpet trim is the 996.2 C4 and the one with the plastic cover and the CD changer in on the side is the 996.1 C4. The CD changer is on the side with only the top visible. The amp must be under the plastic cover. It's not easy to find a pic online with the plastic cover removed.
