Default Interesting Listing

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...11-carrera-31/

the most base model of any 996 i've seen, almost no options! and $10k in repairs/maintenance done in April, all the biggies (IMS/AOS/clutch/brakes/etc)

curious what this sells for in 3 days

If I were describing the car and had access to the service records, I'd mention which IMS "retrofit" was installed, or did I miss something?

"Option" C02 indicates it is made for the US market, so this 996 has no options at all.

Very interesting. Why would someone dump that much into a car and sell it a few months later? It's going to be hard to get a return unless the car was given to the seller. We'll see.

Just curious I didn’t see when the production date is on it. I would think maybe towards the end of the mk1 cars with so few options.

All North america 996's say C02 on them. It has nothing to do with their other options. It just means it is setup for federal regulation at a minimum.

I find this car interesting. Why on earth would a dealer spend 10K to sell a car for low 20's. That maintenance only adds a few grand to the price. It really makes no sense at all. Unless of course they bought the car super cheap. I doubt that too. Pretty sure the shop that did the work is on site or they have a deal with them and they get records with full pop prices on them and pay far less.

Maybe life got in the way or maybe they figured it would make the sale easier or higher? I sold a 2004 911 for a detailing client of mine, interior and exterior were both in excellent shape. It took me a few months, 95% of the messages were "is the IMS done?" and then they would disappear, wouldn't even bother to come to look and test drive it. Of course, once the eventual buyer did a PPI it came back almost flawless, only things noted were a few door dings and tires were a few years too old.

I hope they didn’t put all that $ into this 996 to maybe distract an online auction buyer from an early stage engine issue or something else. Not making any personal accusations, just trying to think of alternative reasons.

Or maybe its just a great opportunity for someone to own probably the worlds only Zanzibar, zero option, 996.

Cant wait til auction ends.

My theory too. The difference between selling and not selling. Even if the seller takes an overall loss as long as they are recouping more than the 10K spent on maintenance (currently @ $14K now), they got some of the value of the car back in their pocket vs. being stuck in the car.

Realistically the should recoup some of it considering a car with potential issues addressed should go for less but it isn' always the case. I purchased mine without the IMS done but I negotiated about half the price of repairs out of it. I think the original asking price on mine was 21k or 22k and I got it for 18.5k. It was a low option 99, not zero but low has an LSD and 51k miles.

Looks like an okay car, but it's pretty clear it's been in a front-end accident and not repaired exactly right. Evidence:

1) The shut line between the hood and bumper isn't right. So at the very least the bumper's been removed and not replaced very well.
2) The insert for the air inlets is white/gray instead of black, which is weird, since that piece is black from the factory, and is a separate piece from the bumper cover. Not sure why somebody would have primed that, or painted it an odd color during a repair. There's no way that's sun fade, it's too light. Maybe it's an artistic choice and not an indicator of damage?
3) The gasket under/around the hood emblem doesn't fit right, which indicates it's been removed and replaced, not very well, during some paint work. Those can be a hassle to stretch/seat around the emblem; looks like whoever did this job didn't take the time.
4) The paint on the hood looks significantly more orange-peely than the rest of the car. Reflections are nowhere near as crisp on that surface as on others.

Low $20's, however on BaT, who knows.
