I just purchased a 2004 C4S Cab... and I really don't like taking the arrows on first generation models...

cars are depreciable assest, roughly 1/2 of their depreciation occurs in the 1st 4 years, and I don't have so much that I throw it away just to have the newest ... like mine's too slow anyway

997 was lighter than 996, had a DSG gearbox option, and had a better quality interior.

Or like Scouser I may wait for a V8 Vantage once the initial rush is over. Having done the Aston Martin factory tour they make you feel like you're at a Saville Row fitting for a handmade suit. If the car drives that well it will be very special

Beware it's an English marque.... The use/fix ratio will hopefully be better.

I plan on waiting for the 998. IMO buying a 997 will result in another big depreciation hit. I got hit way too hard when I traded my 02 Targa for an 03 4s.

Plus, for headlights? Nope. I'll add some custom headlight covers and my 996 will play the 997 part.

I like my '99 with LSD and cable throttle so I think I'm set for a while. Of course if there is a significant performance upgrade I might consider it. I guess we'll see once the car is out. Hopefully the 997 or the 998 will be lighter, less insulated (noise - more exhaust music), less electronics, etc. Back to basics.... miss my '78 911SC.

I won't decide until I see the final specs on the car and factory photos. I will say that I love driving my 996 and like the looks and interior so the 997 needs to be spectacular in order for me to drop another $30K+ on one.

The "leaked" details of the 997 so far do not make me want to change from my 03 C2 Cab. Even a bump of 25-40 hp would not dramatically change the way the car drives. With 3500 miles and depreciation to date of 14.5K (or >$4/mile) it would not make financial sense. (If any P-Car makes financial sense). I think most 02 and newer 996 owners will wait for the 998 or the 997S versions. The 996 was, for me, a great change from my 993. I don't see the 997 as that great a change more of a facelift.

996 is the first car I owned I want to keep for the rest of my life. I plan to wait how the 998 going to spec out and still keep my 996. Nice to have 2 911's in the garage : ). Regards. Mike

I'm keeping the 996. There is not enough significant improvement in the 997 to justify the added cost of a new car and the cost of the depreciation on the old car. And, if the spy pics are correct, the 997 is a throwback and the 996 looks better.

I may be in the market for a track car, such as a used GT3 or a new Elise. Definitely NOT in the market for a 997.

Yes, if:

- they ditch the M96.03 engine... I they havent fixed issues such as the RMS in 6 years I'm not trusting them with it in the 997.
- they offer a C2S with extra HP, and sportier setup and not he turbo looks
- they don't make it look retro or older looking than the 996
- they don't make it any heavier
- LSD/PSM would be nice
- its not just a "facelift" of the 996 to make a few more bucks from the current platform before the 998.

I'm optimistic actually, the rumors of a CS2 are pretty solid, with 370-380HP for the C2S it can't be with the M96.03 do its got to be a fairly diff one like the GT3's, the 996 wasn't any heavier than the 993, the current 40th anniv 911 already has LDS with PSM so its posible too. But I'm worried about the 997 being just an big facelift as is rumored, but just a facelift nevertheless of a 6year old car, which would be very cheap and a betrayal if you ask me. We will see in September

Carlos, I hope you are right. I've been thinking about the GT3 lately, but it's just not practical for me. One, I need the rear seat so I can enjoy drives with my wife and kid. That's important to me. And two, I want the PSM in a daily driver as security against the crazy things that can suddenly pop-up on public roads.

So a GT3 type engine (even detuned a little) in a 2+2 body would be perfect for me!
