2003 Targa suspension upgrade
My car has 74,000 miles and rear suspension seems to be a little "bumpy" I am fitting new engine mounts and deciding on shocks. I have some long trips this summer so looking for good road options.
Are Bilstein B8 a good alternative for factory replacement.
Thanks
John

I put Ohlins on my Targa and I really like them. I think about 90% of the time the best answer to a suspension question is M030 kit. Its a superb value and you get an OEM Porsche upgraded, slightly lower, full suspension kit.

B8/H&R Sport Springs w R Adj Sway
B8/H&R Sport springs /HR adj sway bar is Setup I have on my 03 Targa. Recently did Motor Mounts.
It has good feel, lowers it 1.25" not costly per se. Bought both my B8's and Springs used but new, right here on Rennlist.
search Forum , but I used Pelican site for instructions on both.
Bilstein B8's w H&R Sport Springs & 26MM Adj. Rear Bar - 15mm F/ 23mm R ECS Spacers

B8/H&R 29513-2 Springs
Ohlins would be better
Haven't tracked it yet, but plenty good enough for spirited street driving.

As a secondary suggestion I would think hard about replacing anything else that might be suspect in your suspension today. ex. Strut Hats/bearings, Covers, Bushings, etc. that if you didn't repair, that would require another visit to the alignment rack.
Redoing that $$$ expense because of a cheap part you didn't replace will drain any enthusiasm of the total spend or this major repair. Understand your budget and what can you get accomplished within that. Age of car and mileage mean all parts should be a concious decision of yes/no. Here is one place being a garage queen (every night) helps.
Then move on

I'm in the process of buying a '99 C2 with Bilsteins and what appear to be factory sport springs. The car rides noticeably harsher than the stock '02 C2 I used to own. I'm looking to put Koni FSD on as they're known for being stiffer on low speed movements (turns) and softer on high speed movements (bumps). I'll be glad to sell you the Bilsteins of this car though if you want.

You will be surprised on how much all of the small incidental parts are going to cost once you get into it.
I have had Bilsten B8s as they are part of the Techart suspension package. (Springs, Sway bars & Front Strut Support).
The package lowered the car 33mm.
On the road the ride it is ok, until I increased rim & tire width, 18"× 9" & 18" × 11". With 295/35 ×18 in the rear. That is 24" of rubber on the ground in the rear. Then it gotta a little harsh.
BUT, the car handles exceptional, street or track.
I don't have the skills to test the limits of my set-up on the track. But, last year my instructor took me for a ride in my car in the instructor run group at WGI.
I have done many laps around this track, been a passenger in other instructor cars, but I was white knuckled for three laps in the passenger seat of my own car.
Sumitomo street tires, doing a sub 2:18 laps in my daily driver.
So yes, Bilsten B8s are a good choice.
Keep us updated.
David
