Default 996 interior light/door lock issue

I need help. I have a 2000 cab and I have an electrical glitch. Here is what happens. When I turn the car off and get out of the car the interior lights will not go off unless I lock the doors with the remote. I checked to see that all the doors were closed but the lights stay on until the remote lock is used. Could this be a faulty ignition switch or something else. Any help would be appreciated.

Have you tried just waiting to see how long they stay on? Dash lights or the courtesy lights?

They stayed on for well over 30 minutes.

All of these cars have a timed courtesy light feature. I'm not sure of the exact time. I think it might be 2 min or so? Depending on the car, the light should go off after a short time, then the dash. However, if it says on for more than 5 minutes, it could be a malfunctioning lock assembly. Inside the lock assembly, there is a microswitch that completes the circuit. When the circuit is "closed", this tells the ECU that the door is shut and secure. Do you notice anything while driving? Or, it is just when you parked?

So far this is only when I park the car. My son, an engineer, disconnected the battery and the problem went away for just a while then came back. He said when he disconnected the battery it resets the electronic modules. So he thinks it is an electronic module. Do you happen to know the location of the modules or where I can find them.

Try this. Leave the door open when you turn off the car and get out. Then hit the remote button to see if anything behaves differently.

I am suggesting this to see if maybe the door switch is bad.
