Default My sump seal was a little leaky

So I decided to drop it and reseal in conjunction with an oil change this weekend. I was expecting all sorts of bits and pieces in there, But besides 2 small flakes of brown chain guide material it was clean! There was a 3 inch piece of silicone thread caught on the oil pick up screen but that was easy to deal with! Nothing scary in the oil or on the filter either.

Cleaned it up, buttoned it all up and let it cure overnight before adding oil.

Being in the great white north I couldn't find Drei Bond 1209 so after a little research I settled on permatex ultra black. On paper they seem to be pretty close in spec. A little goes a long way, I literally put a 1mm bead around and some (although less than what had been squished out from the previous seal) still squeezed out.

Is Drei Bond 1209 the factory recommended product to use? Unlike the anaerobic flange sealants that are to be used in other parts of this engine, this one is a silicon.

Yes it is.

how much Drei Bond is needed for this job?

Just ordered a LN "oil change bundle" since i'll be dropping my sump to re-seal and not sure how much to order...

Should I get the tube that fits in the caulk gun for an easier to modulate application or the little toothpaste tubes?

Small tube is plenty. A paper thin smear using your finger is all it takes.

Definitely get a small tube, it hardly takes any.

On a side note, I decided that a 1mm bead was the way to go for me. My pinky smear technique isn't fine tuned enough at this point. YMMV
