Default quality of Vaico air-oil separator?

Has anybody used a Vaico AOS? Comments on quality?

Please don't tell me to get genuine Porsche, as that is not an option at this point. I just want to know if these are decent units or not.

Thanks.

Default Vaico parts

You might do some Google or duck duck go searching.

BMW/VW guys have issues.
Personally I think the AOS is not something I'd want to tackle much less more than once for a cheap replacement part. I didn't see where they are a OEM supplier to Porsche, though I might be wrong

I have been googling like mad. I'm hoping to get some reports of actual use from folks here.

It appears they are not OEM, although that information is hard to come by.

Why are you so reluctant to use a Genuine Porsche AOS? We're not talking big money here!

Considering what a pain in the behind it is to change one of these things I'd definitely second using a Porsche genuine part for this one. Plenty of places on the car where aftermarket are reasonable alternatives but my two shiny pennies would say not this one, friend.

Hope you're enjoying your new car, man!

Sonnen Porsche sells it for $108.00 which seems pretty reasonable. I wonder what the Vaico version gos for?

OP specifically said that for whatever reason he is not getting an genuine unit (cost / availability / whatever), and is simply looking for experiences with the Vaico unit.

This thread: everybody urging for him to go get a genuine unit anyway...

Default I'd say

I'd say he either has already bought it, or Indy has already installed it.

either way I'd discuss it with whomever bought it and rethink it.

Not that I'm a huge fan of P parts and their cost, but usually buy OEM Parts or P parts if reasonable.

Well that's what he asked for.

not that I care but OP might want to know how long did it last ?
< 30 min.
> 1 day
>1 month
> 1 year

Just so he has an idea on longevity

PS I liked the Matter of Fact opinion

I understand what you're going through. You're doing a lot of work on the car and it all adds up to more than what you were expecting; therefore, you look for ways to save money. In this case, by going with an aftermarket version of the genuine OEM part. I've personally had my AOS changed out recently and the shop refused to install a non-factory AOS because of problems that fall back on the shop when they fail quickly. There are quite a few parts on the Porsche 996 where the only quality replacement option is a genuine factory OEM part (e.g. expansion tank). I would say the AOS is definitely one of them. Personally, it's your car, do what you want, but I've personally screwed up before and didn't listen to the advice of people on the forums and installed an inferior part only to have it fail with a short period of time. Just ask 808Bill what a failing AOS can do to the car. It's not something to cut corners on. Just my 2 cents.

Peace!

NP, he's not paying for this (AOS) the seller is.
