I bet if you spray citrus soap on your barrels they will come out very clean! Not sure how much the steel wool damaged them though.

My friend showed me how awesome P21S citrus auto wash is. I used it on my 1989 240SX. You can imagine how bad they were. I dont think anyone ever cleaned them. In fact, I would bet money no one ever did!

It took several applications but they came out looking great! I think I have a pic of them. It was impressive!

in the past I would pull out my credit card and buy new wheels and tires, new spoiler you name it. Spend another $7500 on dressing up my car so I could feel like the man with my bad *** Porsche.
So with this being my 5th 911 I decided I am going to do what I can do myself. Not to be flashy and try to impress people. You don’t know me! You don’t what makes me happy. So why do you care if I paint my wheels if all you want to do is make light of them.
Seems we have some internet bullies. It’s on thing to say in a proper or kind way “it’s not for me but I’m glad you like them”. I used to be this kind of jerk until I learned and learned and learned. Today I have learned to keep walking if I don’t like something. I also try to be kind to people whenever possible.
As I said my wife, kids and friends think they look great. They also know when I am done these wheels will be done perfect. I have yet to go over them. No touch ups or buffing done yet. So at least I got a couple of compliments here. I am content thus far.
I hope all you credit card superstars enjoy. Your cars as much as I don

I agree. RL could use more moderation. It doesn't seem like there is any. If someone doesn't like a topic, just don't post in that thread. If you wouldn't say something to somebody face-to-face in real life, don't post it.

There are constructive comments in this thread also -- benefit from those and ignore the rest.

I think the moderators here are non existent. I also think there should be a place for people who pay to join and a free lounge or something.
This has the makings of a great website with go subject matter but the keyboard cowboys just come here to slam.
Give them a free “lounge” and let the real enthusiast pay a few bucks a month.
Then we might see a change.
That and if the moderators participated more or maybe find someone who would.

Really, you want the moderators to get involved here?
It already is a great website!

I agree, this place rocks!!!

I'm sorry but if the OP can't handle people calling him out on a botched job, then don't post pics of your "progress". I'm sure my build thread isn't everyone's cup of tea and there's plenty I've done wrong in my process of learning but I'm open to criticism in any form.

I'm a member of a little forum called "Corner-Carvers" and God help you if you post over there with spelling or grammar errors, much less with something like "how do I get my Mustang to handle like an E36 M3".... You'd get crucified and if you turned around and got your panties in a bunch, you'd get banned. And it's a free forum lol

There's a lot of great people here. There's some that bring no tech and just want to show their cars off. Everyone is welcome, along with their points of view from what I gather.

I dunno, I think 'the real enthusiast' (whatever that is) is more likely to offer an opinion than a non-enthusiast.

Before I criticize someone, I walk a mile in their shoes. That way, if they get angry, they are a mile away and barefoot.

I’m living the process. These wheels looks badass in my opinion. I suppose I could have just dropped $2000 on a set of rims stuck them in my car and think I am the man. This is my work and I am happy with it. Not to mention proud of it. It’s been soo much fun.

Same goes for people who drop the engine from there car and rebuild it.
Hey man I’m just painting my wheels because that’s what I can afford. Don’t get me wrong I have a couple credit cards in the wallet that would by me some nice new wheels. I won’t do it though.
When this project is done I will have red calipers, new Michelin tires and painted to my liking wheels all for under $900.00.
Guess what?
Its all paid for too! No debt.

Who rebuilt an engine and what's the comparison?

I look forward to seeing the wheels finished and on...I'm toying with a color change myself.

I have a bunch of wheel cleaners, acids, polishes, metal polish, tools sometimes you are just fighting a losing battle and stuff needs to refinished.

I didn’t find it difficult at all.
I used 400 to wet sand
Self etching primer
Rustoleum black
Duplicolor shimmer effect paint. You have to see it in person it’s very cool
Duplicolor clear coat 5 coats
I did the bolts the same way.
Looks like a different car Sure you see plenty of black wheels, matte black, gloss black but not many with this multi color metal flack. Just finishing up now. 3 coats of clear and I am done. 10 minutes between coats.
Its so easy some of the polo shirt guys on the forum could do it. Just beware you will get dirt under your fingernail. Lol
This has been a good time doing this job.
