My sailing experience is with USN or my buddies Hobie Cat on fresh water state lake.

I love doing it, and plan on buying a craft when I retire to FL coast .

We just lost 11 skydivers last week...I would never play with the lives of my children, If they want to jump out of a plane they can wait till they're adults!

Well they are adults You have to be over 18. That crash was aircraft/pilot. Crashed right after lift off. Could have been any small tourist aircraft which as you know fly constantly in your beautiful state. The fact that it had skydivers on it just made it seem like a skydiving accident. Statistics show you have a higher chance of getting hurt/dying in a car than parachuting. I have thousands of jumps with never an incident. There was an aircraft in California recently that had a wing clip ALL the jumpers got out safely. I think my diving is more dangerous than my jumping. AND of course, maybe surfing?

I watched a skydivers chute not open from that same airfield when I was a kid.
But I do get it, my daughter wants me to take her one day...she's 24.

Although I have not personally had a failure I know several who did. There is a reserve chute that will automatically deploy at 1000 feet IF you did not pull or something happened where you pass out. I have seen several people have to cut away the main chute due to failure and have to pull reserve chute. PROPER training as with anything will prevent injury or death.
I'm 60 and we have always had reserve chutes with ADD (automatic deployment device) They are just digital now. There has NEVER been an ADD failure so I do not know what you saw as a kid. Possible suicide. Rarely but we had one up here about 10 years ago...

IF your ever in CONUS look for one of these indoor skydiving centers and try it!
