Advise on TT Purchase - 1 painted panel
Hello,
I'm looking at purchasing an '04 TT. The car is very very clear. The car has a clean CarFax, and paint meter shows all original paint. The only blemish is on the passenger side rear quarter panel. It got hit with a shopping cart and has a small dent above the wheel. I don't think it can be fixed by a dent pro. It also has about an 4 inch scratch that the current owner had touched up. It not terrible but I know myself and if I buy the car I'd want it perfect. I'd probably have to have the panel fixed and resprayed. I would of course do it the right way with a Porsche approved body shop.
My question is in the future if I go to sell the car, will having on panel painted on the car become an issue. Clearly I would document the before and after and have receipts of repair.
It's the only thing keeping me from pulling the trigger at the moment...

If it has super low miles, I probably wouldn't. If it has over 70K miles..... just document everything and if you get the deal you want, than do it. Most cars that age are going to have some type of paint work or at least rock chips resprays.

Buy it, ignore this minor cosmetic stuff, drive the hell out of it.

IMO no, as long as the paintwork is good and documented it shouldn't be an issue. I feel like the times when this stuff is an issue is on some Ferrari they made 20 of and every little thing has to be from the factory it loses value.

if that's all, buy it
The 4" scratch can be repaired correctly with a paint file (small 1 " square micro file for paint runs) the other with dent wizard.

A good shop can make it look like factory finish, but you get what you pay for. Request to duplicate factory texture of clear coat, no dirt nibs in clear coat and match the paint perfectly. Paint technology has come a long way and this is achievable. Take pics of before so when you sell you can show it was cosmetic only not a damaged panel with extent of repairs unknown.

Thats an unfortunate spot to repaint and one of the most costly.
The rear window and the side rubber window moulding needs to be removed and then re-riveted back into place.
At least the owner cared enough to touch it up.

Like I said earlier, You can have the blob cleaned up and no one will know.
You repair it, and within 2 weeks you have another scratch like it and really be frustrated.
You can have that repaired for less than 200. Panel repaint 2000.00

Not a deal breaker...as noted document everything....a VERY GOOD body shop could paint that area and blend it...if done properly you's never see it....I don't think it would cost anywhere near $2000
Get recommendations for a good "dent guy", fix that first, talk to a high end paint correction type detailer, live with the scratch for a while....if it really bothers you then think about a repair....this is a 15 year old Porsche...not a million dollar collectible...

No collectible there. I would rather prefer a good repainted unit (if well done) that other with scratches or touch ups...

Wanna know a dirty secret? Almost 80% of cars out the mfg line require minor paint/trim before retail sales. Every stealership in the nation has that one guy, or maybe two guys who are specialists at this kind of stuff. I am NOT recommending you go to the stealership, but there's a good chance your 'perfect' car has already had the hand of the shop detail guy fix a little goober here, or scuff there, or some ding, dent, knock, shunt, poke, scratch, scrape. Now that it's out in the wild, life happens. Get it fixed. Find a good indy with a reputation. It better be well under $2000 for those little defects. But - get a bad guy, and he could spend $2000 and still look like a figure 8 Sat nite derby car.
I understand where you are coming from. The first rock chip is going to drive you crazy, until it's fixed.
