Default Quick question. What is the curb weight..

of an 2001 996 C2 coupe? I couldn't find it in the archives. Trying to find out how much lighter an 01' is from an 02.

That's the factory's number - in street trim they tend to be considerably heavier (but the difference 01 to 02 shouldn't change)

What's the difference, and what's extra in street trim that results in the extra weight?

i think GrantG is simply referring to "street trim" as normal options, as opposed to the base car the factory weighs to get their curb weight figures. if you have the upgraded stereo and the cd changer then there's maybe 10 pds extra due to the 2 extra speakes in the dash and the cd player. full leather is heavier than the synthetic stuff they use. let's see... power seats add weight, as do heated seats, also if you have the onboard computer (ok, maybe it's only a pound, but a pound's a pound!). the aero kit obviously adds a lot of weight.

i wonder how heavy you can make a 996 C2 if you get every possible option on it... 12,000 pounds???

My car (1995 993) had about 70 lbs extra (3137 lbs vs. 3065 lbs factory number) and it didn't have that much options; Sunroof, hi-fi stereo, 17" wheels (16" were standard), some leather, sport seats (which actually are few pounds less) and M030 suspension.

So my guess is pretty much any car has at least that much extra weight from factory number and when you have more options, it's easy to have 100 lbs (or more) extra...

Ok, thanks guys. Makes sense.

I guess when it's 50 lbs here or there you also have to think about driver and passenger weight. Good thing Gnomes are little!

I am fairly sure the curb weight porsche uses is for non sunroof cars. I weighed my 99 996 it was around 90 pounds over with no gas. It has a sunroof, 18" wheels, heated memory seats and Litronic lights.

Default Thanks guys! I guess there are a lot of...

factors involved. I'm trying to figure if the power to weight ratio is better in an 02' vs 01' c2 with similar options. I recently tracked my porker (3600lb.) S4 and was embarrassed by a lighter (~2950lb.) RX8. I'd like to take my "soon to have" 996 to the track a few times a year.

Without options 01 2910/300 = 9.70 lbs/hp
02 2965/320 = 9.26 lbs/hp

That's a pretty compelling difference

Better yet X51 02 2965/345 = 8.59 lbs/hp
