Default P0343, cured (I think)

New Bosch sensor installed (old one was an FAE, installed by the PO about 5 years ago), connector decreased with contact cleaner, old codes erased.
Just took a nice 40 minute freeway drive, trying to cruise at 2800 RPM as much as I could. No further 'hiccups' felt, no codes stored after the drive. Engine seems like it "revs" a little better, but that could be placebo effect at work.
Hopefully I can declare victory at this point.

Sounds good, you've put on a full cycle it sounds like, code would have came back, so yeah, you might claim victory, but I don't want to jinx you. :0

Hi there, being a more than happy french owner of a 2002 996 Targa I unfortunately have the P0343 code and the symptoms described above.

I have already got the remplacement sensor but there is no way I can unscrew it... lack of space I'm afraid...

How did you succeed in doing this? any tips I should know? special tools?

What I've done so far: remove the air box, unscrew the cooling pipes stand to have so more room.

Thanks a lot.

Just got the dreaded P0343 myself. Car is driving just fine... for now. But figured since the car is 20, probably can't hurt to replace the sensor.

Looks like I need to get myself a small 1/4 inch ratchet to get it out. My 3/8 with a 1/4 adapter is too big to fit in the space. @VFRMike did you also have to remove any of the coolant hoses to get the sensor out?

I had kinda forgotten about this project.
Don’t think I removed any coolant lines, but I did support the engine and moved the engine mount plate out of the way a bit (look at posts 12 & 13)
I also used a ball end allen, see attached pic
