I must be blessed. I think about things, plan for them and make contingency plans, but once the engine comes to life I worry about zilch. I wait for temps to come up and then drive ‘em. My 996 and 986S always make me smile.

Same here. Life is too short to have anxiety worrying about things you can’t control.

At the end of the day its a car, and like every other car I own or have owned I just drive it. I don't dwell on the what could be, if something happens I will address it then but in the meantime I am going to enjoy the toy!

I had a 2000 540i Sport in which the timing chain guides got brittle and disintegrated. This caused the motor to jump time and ... well you know how that ends. I was left stranded on I295N between D.C. and Baltimore.
I must say BMW inline 6 motors are pretty bullet-proof however. The S54 was particularly sweet in my 2007 Z4M Coupé.

luckily I don't even know about some of the common issues listed in that first post for the Porsche lol other than the IMS ... what else is there that is major work? RMS I don't consider exclusively Porsche cuz I've fixed lots... lots of chevy's and fords RMS's what else is catastrophic for our cars? Maybe I will address some of them on my car lol

Why are you worrying?
If you can't afford to risk running the car, stop running the car. This isn't mean to sound snobby or elitist - just the opposite. If you're concerned that it may pop and you're not in a position to handle that, stop driving it and put the miles on a Neon (again, no snobbery - the SRT neon was a fun car anyone could afford to destroy)...
The 996 is an awesome car when you can enjoy getting the most from it. If you're getting tach-blocked with visions of catastrophic engine failure, park it and at least enjoy looking at it.
I would be gutted if I could not compartmentalize any concern about the car's well-being for addressing at times when I'm not driving it. I love my car, I take exceptional care of my car - but when it's funday, the only thing I want to be freaking out about is...JUST HOW BADLY did I miscalculate this curve?

The early S54's had rod bearing issues but the marque fixed it for customers. Now its bullet proof. Point being is that BMW's have had issues too. Maintain the car and go drive it.
