Default 996 cab window drop

When I put the top down or up on my 04 cab the windows drop all the way and then don’t go back up when the top is done opening or closing. On my 986 they only drop a small amount then return to where they were. Is this normal?

Keep the button pushed down for a few more seconds, there is a delay in the windows going up. I believe it is to allow you to lift up on the button, as you may be doing, if you do not want the windows closed.

Are we talking key in door or button on dash?

My 04 C4S does the following.
  • Key in door : Opening - All windows go completely down. Then top opens. Windows do NOT go back up ever. You must close windows inside the car. Closing - same but reverse. Again, windows will NOT go back up.
  • Car running using button : Opening - All windows go completely down. Then top opens. Windows will go back up. Closing - same but reverse. Windows will go up.

Hope that helps.

Thanks to you both. I was talking button, and yes I wasn’t holding it long enough. Just enough for the light to go off but when I hold it longer the windows do go back up. Different than the Boxster but good to know that’s the normal behavior. Thanks!

Right! And having the e brake on is strange based on other cabriolets I have owned.

The cabs used to have to be stopped with ebrake on up to 2002. There was an aftermarket module you could buy to bypass this and put op up or down so long you were moving under 30 mph. Then Porsche integrated this feature starting in 2003.

Really appreciate the clarification.

Awesome, I had no idea that 2003 and up you could operate the top while moving, that actually probably changes my decision to get the Smart Top (to not getting it as that is the major factor - one touch is nice but not as needed IMO). Also from the manual, the rear windows do not operate when the top is down....

Go to bike week at Daytona Beach in 2019 and you'll see more than just tops drop while moving.

Advice - bring eye bleach.
