Clutch fork and throwout bearing super filthy
Hi,
Car is 1999 c2 6spd cab with 100k miles.
My clutch fork and components are covered in dirt. Is this normal?
Or would this be due to something like an RMS leak or could tranny fluid get in there?
I can see how the clutch operation will be so much better once I clean this out.
There is a pile of dirt where the red arrow is.
Haven't removed the clutch yet but I suspect that the RMS is leaking badly. PO did replace the RMS but I assumed he cleaned up everything. Maybe it failed again....

Pull the clutch and flywheel off and you'll be able to see both the RMS and the IMSB cover/flange. The "dirt" is normal, the oil isn't... Let us know what it turns out to be

The clutch-plate wears, the dust it forms has nowhere to go but accumulate inside the bell-housing, which is the 'dirt' you see. The housing will normally always be covered in a layer of black and the dirt you described. If there's oil there, it might be a leak. If it's just dirt, all is normal.
