Sport Seat Question
Are the bottom halves (seating portion) of the hard back sport seats the same as the bottoms of the regular seats?
TIA.

Thanks FPB111. The size/shape difference must be subtle. Maybe when I get the two side by side it will be more obvious.
So, I went ahead and bought a set of sport seats from a fellow that is stripping a Boxster S to turn into a track car.
Leather is pretty good, but the textured silver paint is in bad shape in areas and will need to be repainted.
Here's my current issue:
When I picked up the seats the driver side was in the full recline position.
If you lift the seat back release lever you can tilt the seat back back up to an upright position, but it just stops dead in that position. There is no 'click' at the upright position, but the seat back does lock when it reaches the full recline position. (the cable release works to unlock it from that reclined position)
Any thoughts??

I imagine that they have electric recline. My sport seats have manual fore and aft adjustment but electric recline. You’ll probably need to get 12 volts to the seat wiring to get it to UN-recline. The seat back release is only for back seat access.

Thanks Jim,
I was able to fit the stripped down seat into my car and hook up the electrical connections.
Fiddled around with the power recline and got things sync'd back up.
Stripper question.
I'm wondering what to use to strip the old textured silver finish off of the plastic seatbacks.
I've stripped a lot of paint off of steel; but this being plastic will be a first for me. Don't want to end up with a puddle of melted plastic - haha.
Anyone here have suggestions?
thanks

After a little research and experimentation I found that when the silver paint (coating) was warmed up I could scrape it off with my fingernail.
Ended up putting it a bathtub of hot water (I'm single) and used a hard plastic scraper to peel off the rubbery paint. Then some steel wool to get whatever little was left behind. Probably about 30-45 minutes per seat.
These scrapers are very hard plastic. Made for scraping gaskets and carbon off of aluminum heads etc without gouging the aluminum. A scraper that got a little soft from the hot water didn't work well.

Yes sir!
Meridian Metallic to match the car's exterior color.
Although they are going in a 986, not a 996- so the painted portion will not be as visible as in a 911.
But since I had to paint them anyhow......

Im dying to find a decent set of Sport seats locally. My comfort seats have seen better days. Rather than redoing the leather I figured i'd "upgrade"
Still crossing my fingers.
