Here in the NW my fan rarely ever comes on which I mentioned to my mechanic, he plugged his computer in and remotely turned on the fan stating "it's working just fine, our temps here never get that hot and you obviously haven't spanked it hard enough to get the fan to turn on" though it does occasionally come on in the garage in the summer after a drive.

I've owned my car for 3 years and the engine compartment fan has NEVER come on. I can activate it by Durametric, so I know it works, but I guess it never feels the need, even when tracking it on a hot day, or stuck in stop-and-go traffic on a hot day.
