Question "911" emblem on 996...

Hey 996 gang...
I'm generally over on the 968 board but I think this may be the place for this...

I was at the Porsche dealer today - picking up wiper blades. There's speak of rain on the way (not common in San Diego). Anyway, as I was puling out of the parking lot I noticed a silver 996 on the lot. Not unusual you might say. This however had a "911" logo on the rear, rather than the typical Carrera or Turbo etc. The car was obviously new. I think this is unusual. What's the designator all about??? I presume it came from the factory this way.

Easy to paint any Porsche Color. Go to www.paintscratch.com and get the spray and clearcoat. Here's arctic silver. (front)
I also used the same paint + clearcoat to paint the PORSCHE lettering on the rear lid.

Great website info Don. That is exactly what I was looking for and stumbled upon in this thread.

Did you paint any other surfaces? I have the alum look center console, door bins, etc. and want to have the a/c, stereo, switch surround painted to match.

I think it is about 4-6 pieces on my 2000 CAB as opposed to the new 1 piece horseshoe and way to much $$$ at the dealer. This seems the best way to go.

Did you do the primer as well? This is the same artic silver as the factory option "alum look" artic silver parts right? Thanks for your input Don!

I've never tried to paint anything larger than the letters/numbers I showed. It is the factory Arctic Silver paint and clearcoat and it doesn't quite match the "aluminum"

If you have pieces that you want painted Arctic Silver try Eric (the plug guy) at www.bumperplugs.com He does excellent work and it is silvery, not aluminum.

There is not a lot of difference between AS and aluminum, but there is some. The Ebrake handle in this pic is alum while the console is Arctic Silver. It's more pronounced in real person. BTW, Eric painted the ash-tray delete AS for me. It was black plastic to begin with.

Did Eric paint the console as well or did you already have the factory AS console and he matched the black ash tray delete with AS? If he matched it, it looks perfect! I assume if he matched it. it would be the same color as the AS you painted your numbers/letters from paintscratch.com, correct?
