Mystery Carbon Interior?!?
Hello all! Nice to see theres a 996 specific forum, ive grown up never really knowing a ton about Porsche as a manufacture (even how to pronounce or spell it correctly) but ive always personally liked the 996 911 the best. Ive learned over the last few days that the one I liked the most is concidered to many to be the worst.... PERFECT! So I found this amazing turbo local the other day and had to give it a try!
Not knowing anything about them other than there unlike anythings else on the roads I am finding that theres seems to be interior bits in the car that are carbon fiber rhat have possibly been painted or covered with leather/ alcantera. The existing exposed carbon is cracked up but I think this could be re furbished.
The question is if this center consol has been painded over and is infact or is likley carbon fiber? Theres a custom sub box in the back painted the same color... leads me to believe it was ether painted to match that or to cover the carbon that may have been cracked up?
Any info would be appreciated... im about to take a piece of sandpaper to it but thought it may be best to ask first?

my 99 C2 had a factory carbon fiber interior trim package. it really was horrible. it was very thin, delaminated, easily cracked, and distorted from heat/sun.
so yes you may have some factory CF interior trim

A Turbo 996 that I considered before I bought my 996 had the factory carbon fiber package.
It had 125K on it and the carbon fiber was badly cracked and looked horrible.
After that I decided I didn’t want a carbon fiber interior.
There’s none in my 996, and I don’t plan to add any.
If you like carbon fiber, get a regular interior and use carbon fiber wrap to get the look you desire.
It will look better and cost a LOT less $.

Almost all the carbon fiber and wood interior parts were quite substandard! They look nice but age horribly. Most of the ones I have seen AND have in my car crack. IF you like it make sure to keep it out of sun and climate controlled. Best solution is get standard interior and have parts custom wrapped.
Are you going to sell that steering wheel? Light grey with carbon?

This looks a lot like my interior. I have the original PCCM, but have the full CF interior. My steering wheel is cracked and I am going to look to replace it with a refurbished CF one if I cannot find someone to refurbish mine. I also no longer have the CF shift ****. Would love to find one for a decent price for sale.
