My recent purchase of a 2001 Carrera 4 Biarrtz White
Greetings,
My neighbor posted this 2001 Porsche Carrera 4 996 in Biarritz White with Natural Brown Leather on Nextdoor. I decided to send her an email to look at the car. Nextdoor is not a great place to post for sale a car such as this in my opinion, but never the less that's what she did. I arranged to meet her on a Sunday with my wife to look at the car. A Porsche was not some something we were expecting to purchase in the near future but I love white cars, and I especially love white Porsche's. The seller had advertised the car for a month first on Craigslist for $21,500 and said she had weird people calling her. Go figure! By the time I looked at the car she had lowered the price to $19,500. Now here is the good, the bad, and the ugly news about this ride. She bought this car after it's lease ended in 2003 from the original Porsche dealership, Pacific Porsche, right here in Hermosa Beach, CA. where it has been garaged kept since she purchased it. She had all the service records, all the keys, and books. The car had never been in an accident, paint fine except it wasn't detailed. Interior looks new with a few exceptions. Floor mats were toast and her kid put feet marks on the center console area! Tiptonic gear handle was worn probably from make-up chemicals on her hands.
After test driving the car with my wife, and looking over the service records, I asked her what were the things that she knew where wrong with the car? Also my wife and I also had a dollar number in our heads that we thought she might take for the car. She said the drivers memory seat no longer worked, and the speedometer gauge had what as she described as a dragon growing out of the digital display. I also pointed out the rear view mirror was fogging up along the bottom portion of the mirror. I asked her why she hadn’t fixed these things she replied they were not safety items and she wasn't' bothered by them! Also during a recent service at Pacific Porsche the car was had damaged the passenger side rear rims chrome had flaked off and they agreed to repair it.
The IMS bearing was replaced at 75,000 with an LN engineering bearing, rear main seal, water pump, and other service items that plague these vehicles. The 996 now has 87,300 miles on it. I purchased the car for $17,500. Pacific Porsche refinished the rear rim on their dime and I had them do the other three on my dime and put four new tires on it. They said the front tires were from 2006, and I decided to just put four new ones on it all they way around. Wheel alignment checked and a recommended throttle body cleaning too! I also discovered much to my chagrin that the rear spoiler doesn't raise evenly and needs a new lifting mechanism, ouch!
Here are the options the car has:
Narural Leather Brown $4,600
Comfort Package $2,090
Technic Package $2,190
Self-Dim MIrrors & Rain Sensor $690
Heated Front Seats $400
"High Gloss" TurboLook 18 Whl $2,160
3-Spoke Lthr Steering Wheel $255
EXCLUSIVE OPTIONS $860
Natural Brown Floor Mats $110
Stainless Steel Exhaust Tips $750
I spent my days off and detailed the cars exterior and interior and it looks amazing! I used my porter cable variable speed random orbit polisher and Adam's Polishes on the paint. Tell me what you think! I'm very excited to own such a car and have joined the PCA. I realize there is a hefty repair price on the seat, rear spoiler, mirror and center console. My wife and I will have fun with our weekend driver and plan to attend some PCA events. I also live near the Porsche Experience locate in Carson, CA and plan to have some dinner and drinks there with with my other friends that own Porsche's!
I want to thank Rennlist and for all the great information here that has assisted us in learning about the car. I look forward to you're feed back Please try to be kind. And enjoy the pictures!

Nice looking 996!
Now all it needs is a good long drive. (repeated as necessary)

White's my #1 pick for the 911 as well. Congrats and enjoy!

I just thought about the interior color. I usually prefer black but I must say, I think it would be an experience stepping into a car with that color interior! Definitely different, and different in a good way!

Absolutely gorgeous car , how about some interior pictures? Great location too, very jealous now that snow is falling here. I personally love Hermosa Beach, but need to win the lottery before I can move.
