Rennsport show on TV
I was pissed off to note that in the "parade" just towards the end of the 1hr show, showed just about every version of the 911, and completely excluded any version of the 996! The year went from 1998 straight through to 2007. Perhaps I'm missing something but it just seemed to me to be a downright kick in the *****!!

Three Wheelin'
Not to mention the car that helped save Porsche from financial ruin. And it was lighter, faster and better equipped than the 993. The Pcar snobbery is still strong with some folks. But it’s all good. Just like the 912 & 914 before it. These black sheep cars’ time will come. Be thankful we don’t have to pay 964/993 prices.

If this is true, then very sad. The 996 to me is the best of both worlds "reliability" in a water cooled engine while having many things like the suspension are still mechanical giving the driver more "feel" of the road. 997+ have many computers controlling this for you.
To me
To me
- the 993, and many of it's predecessors, is nice that it is the last model('s) of air cooled (something Porsche was known for), more mechanical components giving the driver direct feedback of the road
- the 997 is a big Technology leap forward (there's a computer for just about everything, making the drive more "comfortable"), bigger, comfy but less feedback and control of the overall car
- the 996 is the best of both worlds introducing water cooled reliability, similar size car from it's predecessor, some computers but retaining many mechanical components
