LN X-51 style baffle question
I just picked up a 2 quart deep sump set that includes an LN X-51 style baffle for my 996. The set is used, and the photo looks a little different than the product on LN's site. The difference is that the LN site has some sort of orange thing on several of the edges.
Can anyone that has put one of these on their car verify whether or not these orange pieces are necessary in the installation? Any chance they are just sharp edge protection during shipping?
I'm reaching out to LN support as well, but I thought I'd ask the board for first hand experience.
Thanks!

The orange pieces appear to be glued onto mine.(also LN 2qt deep sump)
I'll take a closer look when I get home.
I haven't installed mine yet.
Jealous that you found a used 2qt deep sump, even without the orange pieces!

The orange pieces "seal" to the sides of the block. They are glued in place. Maybe LN could sell you a roll of the material and you could cut to fit. Not sure what they use for glue on it. Honestly I am not sure significant oil would make it past without them in place. You'd still be light years ahead of the stock setup especially with the pickup extender putting the pickup down in the deep sump windage tray.

Thanks guys. Still no reply from my LN engineering ticket, but I like your rationale of this setup even without the rubber bits being better than what I have now.

The previous owner probably took the seals off as it is hard to fit the baffle with them on and they also have a tendency to swell when exposed to oil . Liberal lubricant makes it side in much easier. I am sure LN can supply the material call Charles or George.

LN tech support hooked me up with a set of the orange gaskets. They were very helpful.
