Afternoon Therapy
Yesterday afternoon I took off from work early and replaced the coolant hose connector on my 1999 C4. Found it broke when I disconnected the hose to replace my oil filler tube - now that's a fun project. Original Owner left me a few "surprises" that I am finding as I work through getting to know my car. I decided to go with the stainless steel option in lieu of OEM Porsche part which is all plastic. Yep, I paid a premium but I feel like if I can buy a part (any part) for this car for under a hundred bucks, I kinda don't care about the cost...Plus, the stainless piece is super well made...In America, BOOM.
see the broken connector - yep pieces are in both hoses.
not much "connection" for the hoses here
sweet new stainless connector - look how thick the steel is!
all back together nice and tidy - new bolt and washer
bits and pieces from inside the hoses - after picking them out thoroughly I vacuumed the hoses too.
Therapy session over. Let fly the comments on loctite and torque spec for the bolt, the open throttle body intake and a bunch of other stuff that I didn't even think about. Back to driving the heck outta this car and loving it!

That's a great little fix for that crappy plastic part that literally breaks on everyone who's ever owned one of these cars! You're not saying that you drive it around with the open intake are you? I didn't think the car would even run without the MAF set up in line...

No driving with an open intake - anticipated the comment that I should have covered the intake during the repair to keep out debris.

That's the first thing I had to repair after I purchased my 996. I barely touched it when wiping off the air filter box and it broke apart. I took a section of copper pipe from a toilet cold water input, drilled out the existing bracket then some new hose clamps and was finished. make sure to get out all the plastic still in the hoses.

You can also use a double ended barbed copper plumbing fitting. I made one like that once with a stainless steel bracket to keep it out of the belt. My plastic part was too brittle and frail once drilled out so it broke. The next time I do it, I'll probably go for the Rauch and Spiegel part. I spent a lot of time making the bracket and I'm not sure it is worth the opportunity cost.

Su8pack1 - Where did you buy those hose clamps. I bought the upgraded part but haven't installed it yet.

su8pack1 - Are you sure that belt is on correctly? I've never seen a serpentine belt with ribs on both sides, and the way it appears in the photo, it looks like it is installed upside down. But then again, it should be a 6 ribbed belt. Huh...confused.

If you look at the first pic the ribs are only on one side, but that belt was on it when purchased and has since been changed when I did the water pump.
