Hello
I haven’t owned a 911 since I sold my 964 in 2007. I’m way overdue!
I purchased a silver cabriolet with just under 50,000 miles.
I am trying to contact the previous owner to see if I can get maintenance records. I’d also like to find out if the IMS bearing has been changed.
My first question to you folks would be, what is the first mod I should make and which mods should I plan on?

Congrats!
If maintenance is up to date (and IMS has been taken care of) then my first mod would be exhaust.
I recommend Fabspeed.
Second would be a 997 shifter.

Agree with TexSquirrel on the performance items. Depending on your exhaust budget and goals you might consider a Phister mod too. Aesthetically, I'll add that black wheels look great with the Arctic silver paint.

I'll add that I did a ton of stuff to mine... More appearance than performance. May not be your cup of tea but will give you ideas. Check my site for all the detials. http://porsche.rossie.net

Take care of any deferred maintenace, then drive it, put on some miles, figure out what you’d like to tweak and improve.
Tiptronic or manual? If everything else is in good shape, and it is a manual transmission, I’d recommend a Numeric shifter as the thing you will notice most in day to day driving.

You can try to put the Vin in on LNs website and hope it comes up as registered. If it doesn't come up it doesn't mean it wasn't done but worth a try. Also probably just replace the bearing at your next clutch job unless you just have money to throw at the car.

Congrats! I was without since 2010, just got a 03 996 w/Tip, love the car!
Like others have said, drive it a while before you do the mods. Maintenance, do NOW!
Mod to do:
1. Make your side markers flash!
Maintenance to do:
1. Take the Front bumper off and clean the radiators/condensers. How To
2. Check/replace your pollen filter!
3. Check/replace air filter.
4. Check ALL fluid levels. If you have a Tip, you still have a differential.
5. How many miles on the oil? You might want to change it. I use Lubri Moly 5W-40 and a Mann filter.

One of my first mods was installing a set of these:

I‘ve installed them on BMWs, VWs, and Porsches.
They’re easy to install, and make mounting wheels much easier.

My first mod was making sure the wheel cap crests were properly aligned.

Brian,
I highly doubt that all maintenance is up to date, however, if it is...
Mod 1: Coilovers (height and damping force adjustable, like Bilstiens, Feal, there are many)
Mod 2: Wheel Spacers, to complete the improved body to wheel/tire fitment
Mod 3: Exhaust (as others have mentioned...All are good, I chose Billy Boat for the lighter weight and great sound)
Enjoy the process.
