Default Standard vs. Options

Can someone provide me with a link that shows the standard options of the MY 2000 996? Also is there any link or FAQ that discusses the differences between the various years of the 996? I am considering a purchase and want to gather some basic research and information and thought it may exist already without doing a thousand searches for each thing I am looking at.

Specifically, as for the options, I am looking for stuff like PSM. From my understanding PSM is standard on the C4's. I have been told but unable to verify that PSM was standard from 2000 on. True?

I am looking for the differences such as E-gas in 2000 on etc.

Thanks.

Lots of good information here:

http://www.rennlist.org/main996faq/faq.htm

And here ...

http://www.renntech.org

E-gas was on all cars from 00 on. The 99 C4 had PSM; some 99 C2s have traction control instead. Not sure if PSM was standard from 00 on on the C2, I'm thinking it wasn't.

I recently went from a 993 to a 996, both are great cars. You might try Edmunds for options and standard features, they have a pretty good workup on older cars.

PSM is an option on C2 & Targa, standard on C4 & C4S.
Some 98/99 C2 have LSD instead of PSM ( i think )

Aside from exterior cosmetics you find a lot of improvements are in the interior build quality. A 99 interior does not look as good as a later model car. You can see an incremental improvment in the quality of components used in the interior for later model cars. For example on PCM1 the labels would peel of the buttons in hot weather. There was also a more plastic feel to 99 cars than on a 2002 car.

My '99 MY (late '98) was fitted with a special "lux" pack that included a few other goodies apart from the PSM/LSD combination. IMHO, LSD without PSM would be a quite interesting, esp. in the wet. I have enough trouble keeping my foot planted when it does breakaway with the PSM working.
Without intervention I hate to think how many ditches or hedges I would have become acquainted with!

Peter

Thanks for the info. You get use to driving without the drivers aids. My current 993 has nothing. You just have to learn how to drive under the conditions given to you. That being said the one reason I am selling my car is that I want something that is an all around performer. I have never driven the 993 in the snow and I want something for year around driving. I would like a C4 but I would also take a C2 with PSM.

Bet,

You'll love the C4, it is simply an amazing machine!! I live in Michigan and it's my daily driver. I just put snows on and go. C4's come standard with PSM, I prefer to call it "Please Save Me ". And it works too, I can attest to that. The entertainment value is worth it alone, you should see people's faces when they see a P-car out in snow. The guys in 4x4 give you the "that's impressive" look after you pull away from them at a light in the snow.
