Default Is this piece part of the fuel door lock or ??? Help!

I just finished replacing the fuel vent valve. I saw this externally ribbed brass bushing on the shop floor. Any thoughts were it goes? I found that it fits in the fuel door receptacle for the lock pin. Do your cars have a brass bushing in this location or any ideas where it might go?

I did note that the mounting holes for the vent valve have a metal liner in them, but those are not missing and they are smaller in diameter anyway.

I don't think thats a part from the car, it certainly doesn't get inserted into the receptacle

I figured if it had been there in the fuel door I would have noticed it before. As I tugged on the various plastic pieces I could hear little stuff rattling down, which I assumed were pebbles, but then I saw this under the front of the car and began to wonder. I swept that area where I found this pretty recently so am puzzled where it came from.
