They are one of the best options out there. You Indy never should have started that engine!
There are a couple of engines (good) for sale in the classified section here on RL.
Also, you can get a short block from Porsche for $7-8K

Oops, thanks for the correction...
Short $7k'ish (need to have your heads reworked $2K'ish) and long $15K … http://www.autoatlanta.com/results.php?partnumber2=Porsche%20996%20Short%20Block&narrowcar=911%2019 98-05
Coopduc just did this and I would have but Porsche of Hawaii wanted $9K and a $4K core charge.
I found a 50K mile motor that turned out to be a factory replacement for $6K. Next year the old motor will be rebuilt by the best!

$11.5k for a rebuild from LN sounds like a great deal.

This.

Assuming this included their 3.6 nickies and associated hardware, you would have a hard time DIYing this for 11.5K.

I would get a rebuilt long block and swap it out. $11.5K is not a bad deal. I am sure Porsche wants a bit more than that for their long block.

I just did this for a friend and he bought a long block from an engine rebuilder in FL for $9k.

$11.5K from LN Engineering sounds like a great deal to me, especially if you can have them increase displacement for close to that price.
I've always rebuilt my own engines, and already have all the tools necessary to assemble an M96, but I'd at least consider having LN Engineering do it for that price.

LN doesn't rebuild engines. We do offer stock replacement engines through the RND Engines (http://www.rndengines.com) program, which feature our Nickies and IMS retrofit. Most engines are sold as a longblock, but we do have a few m-codes like the M96.03 and M96.05 that are also available as a shortblock.

A 4 month lead time for a rebuild with Nickies is a normal lead time for a proper rebuild where you get your original engine back and not some bait and swtich. The block process takes 6-8 weeks, plus time in transit, for sleeving and plating. Most budget rebuilds slap a coat of paint on the block and they add a bottle of motor honey and call it good, so buyer beware. I'd rather see someone put in a good used engine than a budget rebuild.

We've been sleeving blocks with our Nickies for well over a decade, with well over 1000 done in the last decade.

My mistake should have been RND and not LN.
