Default Tiptronic button replacement?

My right side steering wheel tiptronic button is real loose but does not pull off to replace is there a clip or something holding it on? I see part is available from our host so that is done.
Thanks
Rich

Don't think that video is applicable to a 996 they are showing 997 series where buttons are different
Thanks

The button itself snaps down onto the switch assembly.

If you gently lift the inside edge, the barrel will snap out of the switch fingers

Then you can lift the button out. It has a long tab on the bottom which is what actuates the switch.

You can see in this last pic the two screws which holds the switch into the steering wheel. I bought a junk wheel to recover with suede. One of the buttons was loose because one of the little switch fingers was broken. I built it back up with some JBWeld and then drilled a new hole for the button barrel. It is nice and tight again. If you want a picture of the repaired switch, let me know.

Thanks for the pictures they help remind me the air bag center on the wheel pulls off or are there screws holding it?

There are two torx bolts holding the airbag to the wheel.

Yep, two T27 screws that are accessed from the back of the steering wheel. Pelican Parts has a good DIY on steering wheel removal that has instructions for removing the air bag.
