Default 2002 Engine compartment emergency release cable

I removed the drivers side rear light assembly to run a cable for a rear view camera. I found an emergency release cable for the engine compartment coiled up in the light compartment. I can find nothing in the owners manual about the cable. If I have to open the engine compartment to remove the bolt to take out the rear light assembly, then what good is the cable? Where should it be?

Right where you found it. A rubber kitchen spatula carefully wedged a little way between the light assembly and fender will allow you to fish it out with a thin wire hook.

Just duct tape it in place so you can easily access it when needed.

That's the issue - where is easy access?

Right there between the light and the bumper cover...
